pro -- swore to protect. >> reporter: they say he was part of the stick up team. jones claims he was only in the area to meet with a man who promised information on illegal guns. this is where the robbery was planned with officer jones in attendance. inside the detailing shop on old silver hill road in prince george county. prosecutors say it's owned by one of the suspects, lynn wilkerson. detective anthony green said the 16 members tried and failed to carry out the robbery november 30th with officer jones in a marked cruiser then went to fourth street southeast but didn't find their target. detective green testified on the way to the job they stopped to pick up one of the men who was surprised to see the plus cruiser saying the police is going with you all? yes, the police is going with us. >> reporter: the next day the stick up team tried again with officer jones again in his cruiser.

with jones parked 20 yards away in a parking lot, detective green says the robbery went down and instantly went bad. the victim struggled calling out to jones for help. shots were fired wounding the victim and killing a suspect. arvelle austin who police believe was mistakenly killed by his own son. >> he is even titled to a bond somewhere, spends 45 days here and they haven't offered him nothing. rely on one guy with no credibility. >> reporter: the government is relying on that one suspect. >> one suspect with no credibility. >> reporter: prosecutors say officer jones never used his gun but left the scene when the shooting began. prosecutors opened the hearing today by showing two pictures of d.c. police equipment found in the home of one of the suspects. two bulletproof vests, portable police emergency lights and a battering ram used to knock

down doors. >> what do we know about one if not both of these intended targets of the robbery. >> reporter: police sat target wounded during the robbery was a drug dealer who the teen planned to kidnap. >> paul wagner reporting live for us. in the district, city council is moving to strip power from the mayor's office. the mayor gets to appoint the city attorney general but the council is proposing that d.c. voters do it. a final vote will take place next month. an amtrak train struck and killed a teenage girl on the way to school. police say ann marie stickle and a friend were walking on the tracks investigators believe the 14- year-old was wearing headphones and didn't hear the train until it was too late. stickle's friend was unharmed. in maryland, this little girl is called a miracle baby. lucky to be alive after police say a woman tried to cut her

from her mother's womb. police say veronica deramous used knives and box cutters to try to cut the baby out of teka adams stomach. adams escaped and she and the baby named miracle sky are doing okay. >> teka is my youngest daughter, so, i felt like she was trying to take my baby in two ways. my daughter and my granddaughter. >> today the judge ruled the case will go to trial. deramous is charged with attempted murder, assault and imprisonment. the president assembled his top security advisors and and nounsed that the u.s. had sufficient information to uncover the plot but failed to connect the dots. tom fitzgerald has the news edge. >> brian, by and large much of the focus was on intelligence gathering but the white house said no final decision has been made as to whether or not to

install old body scanning at u.s. airports saying they believe they can do that without compromising privacy and enhancing security. still, the message from the white house was clear nearly 8 1/2 years after 9-11, much work on the intelligence front need to be done. >> when a suspected terrorist is able to board a plane with explosives on christmas day, the system has failed in a potentially disastrous way. it's my responsibility to find out why. >> president obama tuesday announcing newer forms including adding dozens of people already on terror watch lists to no fly lists, additional air marshals and tighter controls on granting and revoking u.s. travel visas. >> hopefully there won't be a catastrophic event before we get it down to 110%.

house briefing today, press secretary robert gibbs was asked if anyone at the white house or administration would lose their job over the christmas incident. he said at this point the president has full confidence in homeland security director janet napolitano, leon panetta and dennis blair. however, a full review, brian, is still under way. a fake terror plot threatened to derail president obama's inauguration. the paper reports security officials were concerned somalia extremists would attack during the inauguration. intelligencagencies worked to flush out the reports. in the end it was false. the paper says the threat was little more than a rumor fueled by a false report from a rival terror group. salahis weren't the only ones crashing the state dinner.

clk clk is live with -- claudia coffey is live with the latest on that. >> reporter: it's being identified as carlos allen. we got in vid that shows allen walking right into the white house state dinner. check it out. you can see here there is allen right there. he is arriving with the official indian delegation at the north portico. if you look down the hall in the white shirt, again. i spoke to him on the phone this afternoon and he would not confirm nor deny that he was there. instead, he referred me to his attorney. but clearly, clearly this video shows him walking into the white house just past the rope line. according to the secret service, the third crasher wasn't on any list but got in with the official indian delegation. allen was not at his home that he uses for parties here in mount pleasant today but, as i said, i talked to him on the phone. when i asked if he was at the state dinner, did not -- he did not answer my question and told me to talk to his attorney.

as of yesterday, this six bedroom mansion is on the for sale block. he said it's been for sale for some time now. the secret service released a statement saying they were investigating a third uninvited guest. the third travel went to the willard hotel and arriveat the dinner with that group under the responsibility of the department of state. eleanor holmes norton says clearly there was a serity break down again. >> what i think we have here is that the state department people need to work as closely with the secret service as the social secretary's office needs to work with the secret service. >> reporter: congresswoman norton is on the homeland security committee that subpoenaed the salahis to testify about their infamous surprise visit. she said the latest revelation

they have driven more than 1 million accident free miles. there aren't quite as many million milers if you want -- as they want you to think. it appears a number of the people are photo shopped into the ad multiple times. here is the same driver twice. another y appears three times. either metro hired a lot of twins, triplets or there is more than meets the eye here. we contacted are the for comment. so far, haven't heard back. do a double take when we see some of these potential snow totals coming our way. >> in the mountains, four days of up sloped snow. my family in erie, they got 18 inches. my nephew totaled his car in a white out. he's okay. the cold will stick around. we may get snow before the end of the week, maybe enough to shovel. as we look live across d.c.

tonight, we are not finding it quite as windy but i'm sorry to tell you a few breezes out there today. they will lighten up tonight but they will be back tomorrow for our afternoon. we are talking about winds 15 to 25 miles per hour. it makes it feel colder. you know the drill. this december of 2009 was colder than normal. only five days in january, it's definitely running below normal. the only day close to average was the first when it was 44. the rest of the time well below average. we have been at or below normal the last nine days. even looking back into december. we have another blast of cold air friday night into the weekend. it will bpushing a little snow ahead of it then the cold air comes in behind it. so, get ready for one more round. high temperature wiz today, we got up to 37 degrees. it probably felt warmer. the wind was better. some sunshine mixed with the clouds.

temperatures are back down at or below freezingn most areas with the exception of fredricksburg at 34. cold night again. windchill about where they have been. maybe not quite as bad as the district. baltimore 21. winds will be lighter tonight and pick up tomorrow afternoon. we think they will be on the order of -- the wind out of the west-northwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour. close to where we were last night with a little cloud cover in there and still on the breezy side. you may see a few flurries around in the morning. cold and breezy. 38 for us. by the way, we have the orange bowl on fox in miami. 50 degrees. so much forgetting away for the warm weather but that would feel warm to most of us in d.c. you can see the snow on interstate 79 in western pennsylvania. this is what we will be watching. this will organize into a weak fast moving disturbance that will approach our area during

the day on thursday. mountain snows continue. maybe a foot. thursday our rpm model brings in light snow. we get a dry slot here which might cut down on totals. with that dry slot, we are thinking maybe a small accumulation. maybe a trace to an inch in the district. north of say, montgomery county and interstate 70, possibly 2 to 4 inches and more in the mountains. that is something that we will keep an eye on. sometimes the small amounts are enough to cause trouble on the roadways. we will watch the thursday friday light snow event closely. small accumulation is possible and cold enough for snow but then look at what happens to the temperatures for the weekend. crashing again. temperatures in the upper teens at night. that is for the district. midteens for the suburbs. >> i think the wind will be back again after this thing goes by. >> it will be tough. >> hang in there. redskins may be closer to naming a new head coach. mike shanahan and his agent are
